Colin Mulberg, Director, has over 25 years experience in developing audiences, creating visitor offers, improving the visitor experience and supporting projects.
He trained as a designer, focussing on the interaction between people, products and spaces.
For 12 years Colin was Interpretation Coordinator at the V&A, playing a senior role in developing high quality galleries and facilities. He applied a range of commercial research and design techniques to the deep understanding of different audiences and to analysing how visitors experience cultural spaces. He used this work to help shape many leading and award-winning projects in the museum sector.
He now uses his experience and skills to support a range of clients across the museum, arts and heritage sectors.
Colin is a UK National Lottery (NLHF/HLF) Consultant and is on their Register of Special Services. He is a Council Member for international consultants Gerson Lehrman Group and also a member of Experience UK, the trade body for UK companies that design, create and deliver world class visitor destinations.
He is a Registered Designer (REngDes) and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers (FIED) and has detailed experience of project management.
Colin is an Associate of the Museums Association (AMA) and a Mentor and Professional Reviewer on the AMA scheme. He is also a Mentor on the MA’s Essential Mentoring scheme, supporting the sector during the Covid-19 crisis.
He is a regular contributor to museum and heritage publications, sharing his experience across the sector. He wrote the book chapter ‘The complexity of welcome: Visitor experience at the museum threshold’ for Museum Thresholds: The Design and Media of Arrival, Routledge, 2018.
Colin is Lead Consultant for the Museums + Heritage Show, curating and presenting the ‘Understanding Your Visitors’ stream.
